Olaf was born in Germany. He obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 1999. His thesis, "The aesthetic rest: remarks on the aesthetic of the moment," a study of the 'moment' in contemporary art and philosophy is available on his website.



Olaf now lives and works in Paris

Video is made by a technique called tilt-shift photography. This particular video consists of over 35,000 stills and took over 5 days to shoot. Truly beautiful.

I was looking at Lynne Johnson's blog where I saw this behind the scenes video of Scion Flux Super 8. It is a great showcase of creative talent from various disciplines, styles and skills.

What is Flux you ask? Great question! Well it is an online community of consisting of film, art, music, design and culture. Flux creates experiential events, curates and commissions film, video and art programming and hosts physical and virtual events. You can check them out here.

A recent photography project consisting of places where cultural legends were killed has wrapped up. Dean Rogers took all the pictures and had them in an exhibit in the UK.
I really like the style of the photos because they capture a dark and shadowy image and feeling.

Fresh work from Poras Chaudhary documenting the Festival of Colors, otherwise known as "Holi." Poras is a local with some tremendous talent. Nice work Mr. Chaudhary.

So what the deal with all of this? Well its an emerging trend within journalism using visualization as a way of telling stories. These images were ripped from Visual Editors, a social network of photo, video and designed skilled journalists.
I have over the past 6 months or so become somewhat obsessed with data visualization and utilizing visuals for storytelling. There has been a plethora of appetizing content at there on the subject including NY Times, FlowingData, Flickr, Fidgt, and Visual Journalism. Oh, and I couldn't forget the godfather of data visualization that Himmelsblog turned me onto recently: Edward Tufte.
Delivering visuals and using data visualization has been a creative way for storytelling, but more importantly provides robust information in a digestible and comprehensible form.
